A portable library of Indigenous voices.

The Yoto Literacy Boxes project aims to strengthen children's literacy and fluency by creating a portable learning environment that is rich in high-quality Indigenous language content — designed for homes, classrooms, and traveling households across the NWT.

How it works

Sound-first stories.
Screen-free learning.

  1. 01

    Curate

Elders, storytellers, and educators record songs, stories, and language lessons in Indigenous languages of the NWT.

  2. 02

    Produce

Audio is mastered onto Yoto cards — small, screen-free, child-friendly story cards.

  3. 03

    Distribute

Boxes containing a Yoto player and a starter library of cards are distributed to families and schools.

  4. 04

    Grow

New cards are added over time, building a living, portable library that travels with the child.
