About Us

Our Mission

The Northwest Territories Linguistic Education Society (NTLES) works to preserve and promote Indigenous languages, strengthen literacy, and celebrate culture through accessible, culturally-appropriate learning and support.

Our Vision

A future where Indigenous language, oral history, and cultural knowledge thrive in homes, schools, and communities throughout the Northwest Territories and across Canada.

Our Story

Founded in 2024 by dedicated community members, NTLES is a grassroots, non-profit society for cultural promoters, storytellers, educators, and all those passionate about preserving Indigenous heritage through education and creative expression.

Our Goals

  • Provide Indigenous resources, training, and support for schools and homes.

  • Use education to protect and promote Indigenous languages and cultures.
    Develop and distribute culturally-rich educational resources.

  • Equip youth with skills to thrive in bilingual education and cultural engagement.

  • Support youth development as creators, educators, and storytellers.

  • Ensure community-driven educational programming and language preservation.

Books, films, games, and digital content produced in Indigenous languages.

Creative Youth Training

Workshops for young writers, artists, educators, and content creators.

Capacity Building Workshops

Training events focused on language development, teaching methods, and cultural literacy.

Festivals, cultural days, and community circles celebrating Indigenous knowledge.

Partnerships

Collaborations with Indigenous-led organizations, professionals, vendors, and institutions.

Our Yoto Literacy Box Initiative

Yoto Literacy Boxes project (Uqausiqput Tusaalugu), which aims to strengthen children’s literacy and fluency by creating a portable learning environment that is rich  in high-quality Indigenous language content.
